Dr. Katherine R. Gaulke, Founder of the Wisconsin Association of Free and Charitable Clinics, has filed her paperwork to run for State Assembly District 32 against Tyler August. Gaulke stated; “I’m a mom on a mission to make the community my children live in the best it can be”.
Katherine and her high-school sweetheart, Jason will be married for 21 years this September. They moved to the Town of Delavan in 2005, 10 days before the birth of their daughter Cassie, now age 12. They also have a son T.J., age 14. Katherine and Jason met at Wausau East High School (Wausau, WI) while participating in the International Baccalaureate Program (IB). Right after high school, Jason joined the U.S. Navy, and they moved to Orlando, FL. The Navy then took them to Charleston, SC, and then Kings Bay, GA. The Gaulkes returned to Wisconsin to raise their family and be close to loved ones. Katherine has been actively involved in our community since day one. She served as Coordinator for Mothers of Preschoolers, President of the Family Resource Coalition of Walworth County, and was a Citizen Representative to the Walworth County University of Wisconsin Extension Community Partner Advisory Group (CPAG). For the past two years, Katherine has served as a Citizen Representative on the Town of Delavan Public Works Committee. Katherine is known nationally as a health care and safety net sector expert. She understands the barriers to affordable insurance and access to quality health care. Furthermore, she is a health care adjunct instructor at Upper Iowa University (Milwaukee Campus). She founded the Wisconsin Association of Free & Charitable Clinics (WAFCC), an organization that supports and strengthens the 100+ free and charitable clinics of Wisconsin. Locally, she helped with the launching of Open Arms Free Clinic and continues to be a strong supporter of Open Arms. Katherine has often been referred to as a fierce advocate for the safety net clinics; she states “I will take my passion and problem solving skills to Madison and be a fierce advocate for the residents of District 32” Katherine truly is a “mom on a mission”. She’s committed to making our community and our state a great place to raise a family. Katherine and her family enjoy boating on Delavan Lake and Geneva Lake, sunning on our beaches, and hiking/biking the White River State Trail.
