Student Loan Reform.
Student loan debt in Wisconsin is estimated to be at $24 billion. With some student loan interest rates approaching 15%, this huge debt leaves people vulnerable to economic hardship and risk, which can then lead to a national economic crisis. I will support legislation that allows students to refinance their loans, similar to mortgage refinancing. I support needs-based assistance as proposed in this article when tied to the GPA. I also support state-run student loan refinancing as outlined by Sarah Godlewski, Wisconsin State Treasurer, as well as expanding loan assistance programs for professional shortage areas, such as health care workers, police, and teachers.
